Animals are the bridge between us and the beauty of all that is natural. They show us what’s missing in our lives, and how to love ourselves more completely and unconditionally. They connect us back to who we are, and to the purpose of why we’re here.”
— Trisha McCagh

Kathryn has a genuine love for animals from her days working as a kennel tech at the Washington Animal Rescue League (WARL), working her way up to becoming a Vet Tech, to owning and operating Tails of the City Maryland from 2008-2017, and now running her own new company here called Wild at Heart Pet Care. Kathryn puts her passion into providing the best pet care a pet can receive, treating the pets she looks after as her own.

If one could identify the heart of an individual, it would be by discovering what he or she does when no one is watching. Acts done out of true commitment and care, despite financial compensation or community recognition, is one of Kathryn's defining characteristics. Although a life long animal lover and owner, she developed, while working at WARL, deep empathy for the needs of all pets, especially ones who suffered neglect and abuse. Through her work with WARL, her belief that all pets deserve the unmitigated right to be loved, cared for, protected and just given the chance to be their precious, goofy, life-affirming selves was heightened.

The joy of seeing so many new pet owners adopt the cats and dogs she cared for at the animal rescue was tempered by the fact that these same owners also needed excellent, first quality pet care providers to allow them to be the best pet owners possible. This interest in high quality, reliable pet care led her to work for Tails of the City as a pet sitter. While with Tails of the City, clients offered glowing praise and appreciation for her obvious careful attention to their pets, as evidence through her lengthy, thorough, detailed, daily, written visit recaps. Many clients have commented that they could tell that Kathryn not only did the "basics" of the job but also really took the effort to get to know their pets, even down to their quirky idiosyncrasies. They learned, early on, that Kathryn was in the business of pet care out of genuine devotion and concern for all pets, not just her own.

Now, as the new owner of Wild at Heart Pet Care, Kathryn joins with her team of walkers in the vision to provide the best, most reliable, highest quality pet care in the region.
